The Snug

Our handcrafted Snug is guaranteed to enhance your outdoor space.

The versatile Snug, provides a multi-purpose outdoor space suitable for seating, dining, working and sleeping. It allows for all year round usage, a comfortable, stylish retreat, fully mobile with no/minimal groundwork required. They are handcrafted in our extensive workshop in Axminster, Devon.

There’s a wide range of sizes to choose from. So no matter how large or small your space, our Snugs can accommodate your alfresco needs. We have designed our snugs as a seven piece kit, this allows for easy transportation and site assembly. All components can be carried through a standard front door.

We have designed a variety of seating options for your Snug, including a fixed wrap-around seating or a full pull-out daybed section, on which you can relax, drift away and forget about the hectic trials of modern life. You can even camp out for the night.

In fact, there’s a whole host of extras available; from canvas doors to protect you from the elements— to a variety of cushions from the Sunbrella® fabric range for that additional dose of luxury and comfort. We can also add a hard-wearing storage box to your Snug to keep your garden accessories close to hand.

WoodScott can create various bespoke sizes, and all additional extras are available on all Snugs.

Select a footprint (width by depth)

Our standard snugs are all 8’ (2.4m) wide and come in three depths (front to back) The 4’ (1.2m) deep Snug is the perfect size for the straight bench seat. This will allow comfortable seating for 4 to 5 people and give a wide open aspect of your surrounding area. The 5’ (1.5 m), deep Snug gives more seating space and better protection from the elements. This is also just the right size for the pull-out Day Bed. The 6’4” (1.9m) deep Snug is a generous size and allows for standing space in front of the pull-out Day Bed, or absolutely perfect for outdoor dining or a larger seating area. With the added dimensions, there’s plenty of room to fit a table and chairs. When the sun is out in your garden, there’s no better place to enjoy good company and good food than in this beautiful alfresco Snug.

Select a height

Our most popular height for a snug is 8ft2" (2.5m) medium height, perfect for all aspects of the design. We have a smaller option 7’8” (2.34m) which gives a more snug and cosy feel. Our tallest snug 8’8”(2.65m) offers a more light, open and airy feel and captures more of the external expanse and view. *This is also the best height if you are having a dining table and chairs as it allows for plenty of space to access chairs/benches, either side of the table.*

How they work and how they are made

Design

*We have designed our Snug as a seven piece kit. This allows for easy transport and easy on-site assembly. *

Their arched design means that rain and snow wash straight off,  rather than collecting on the roof and causing damage over time. Similarly, their curved shape means they withstand high winds effectively, making them ideal for exposed locations.

DIY or Built

We can either bring the 7 piece snug kit to your location in the UK and assemble it for you.

Or we offer a easy build DIY self-assembly kit. Where we will provide you with assembly instructions, as well as offering phone support if required.

Construction

The Gothic arched frames are constructed from a triple layer of sustainable, structural exterior-grade plywood which is highly durable. They are then screwed and glued together with a high-quality, fully waterproof glue.

The internal face side of the Snug is made from the same high quality plywood.

These are both painted in a colour of your choice with a high quality, industrial Teknos 4 coat paint system.

The Snug sits on 2 ground skids made from Accoya Eco timber with a 25 year, no rot guarantee

The standard external cladding is made from a preservative pressure treated timber. This can be upgraded to a Douglas fir, Oak, or Accoya timber cladding.

Weatherproofing & Treatment

The cladding we use will last for many years without any treatments. This will naturally weather and turn silver in time.

The internal paint work is an exterior paint and will not require any maintenance for many years.

Base & Footings

The Snugs are built on 2 ground skids, which are made from Accoya Eco timber with a 25 year no rot guarantee.

This means they can be positioned on any level ground surface without the worry of the base rotting.

The solid heavy duty construction means they do not need to be fixed down.

Fixings

All fixings used are stainless steel to prevent any rusting.

No planning permission required

To comply with planning laws, our Snugs are truly mobile and can be moved easily. If you have any concerns its always recommended to do your own checks.

To move your snug, lift each side of the Snug with a leverage bar and inserting a set of rollers (scaffold pole, or Broomhandle) with a scaffold board underneath to help the rollers move, the Sung can then be pushed to a new location, this will require 2/3 people.

Delivery charges

Price quoted is assuming all materials can easily be delivered to the exact location of where the shelter is to be installed and that the ground is level and ready for the erection of the shelter. A small fee  will be charged to allow for any extra work that may be required: For example, carrying timber across fields to location, ground work etc.

If you are concerned about access, have additional delivery requirements or feel that any of the above may be required, please contact us.
