About Us

Scott McCarthy at work Woodscott Joinery are purveyors of the finest handcrafted Joinery. The business was founded by Scott McCarthy in 2002, with the aim of producing a broad range of bespoke wooden furniture and architectural joinery. Scott began his joinery apprenticeship aged fifteen and spent ten years refining his woodworking skills, before taking the plunge and starting his own joinery workshop. Over the last decade Woodscott have been developing a loyal customer base of individuals who appreciate the bespoke nature of our work. Each client and their commissions are treated as an individual challenge and opportunity to produce a piece which is pleasing to behold.

At Woodscott we pride ourselves on the technical excellence of our work and our attention to detail. We only use high quality timber and all ancilliary fixtures are chosen for their quality. It is our intention that everything we produce is built to last. We always carve our mark into every piece as we are proud of the things we make and we find our clients are too.

Thinking of the Environment

Working with wood is a privilege, a beautiful and sustainable material with no two pieces quite alike. All of our timber is responsibly sourced, either from an FSC approved timber yards or better still locally sourced timbers. We particularly love working with local characterful English hardwoods, we always carry some stock of windfallen timber from Devon, Dorset and Somerset. We believe we are creating the antiques of the future, the quality and durability of our pieces will ensure they can be handed on from generation to generation. We always aim to minimize waste materials and recycle as much as possible.

How we work

Every job is different, after initial discussions either on the phone or in person we will visit your home to discuss the project in more detail. It is helpful to see the environment in which the joinery will sit so the piece can be designed to blend in or stand out as desired. This initial consultation is free of charge. We will then prepare a detailed quotation and sketches where appropriate. Once the quotation is agreed to we will require a ten percent deposit to book a slot in the workshop schedule for your commission to be made. A further forty percent is required as work commences, the balance is due on completion.

As the old adage says ”you get what you pay for”, our work is never cheap. However we always aim to keep our prices reasonable, we are only too happy to discuss ideas with potential clients and design a project within the available budget. We look forward to working with you.
